Tonight at Wonder Root, here in Atlanta:

INDIAbetes on September 30th

We are happy to announce our second program for Peepers Movie Night. On September 30th at 8:00 PM we will screen a new documentary about the twin epidemics of diabetes and obesity. INDIAbetes is a groundbreaking documentary about a growing health crisis in India. Combining research conducted at Emory by director Catherine Armbruster with footage from India and interviews with Indian medical experts, INDIAbetes is a video that will certainly be appearing everywhere in the next few years. Producer Brian Danin and his production company, BZD Productions, are planning a return to India to expand the documentary to feature length in the next few years.

Following this documentary, we will screen more videos produced under the BZD production banner, following Brian Danin’s work over the years as a producer/director.

Come out and support the filmmakers in their effort to get their work shown and to find investors for the next phase of their work.

The kick-off of principle photography!!!

The INDIAbetes team joined the American Diabetes Association in Grant Park in Atlanta on Saturday, September 26, 2009 for the annual STEP OUT: Walk to Fight Diabetes. The Step Out Walk is ADA’s main fundraising event for research and community programs to prevent, manage, and identify a cure for diabetes.

Getting the Show on the Road

This will be the first of many more videos to come. We’re still working on our website and looking for funding to go to India to make this documentary a reality. This was a great start. Keep checking back here to track our progress.

In these tough economic times, why BUY when you can STEAL?

I’m finally back …

After a bit of a hiatus, I’m finally back to writing on the blog. A big thanks to Drew in the mean time for keeping the site active. A bigger thanks to Drew for his last post and his well wishes.

BZD Films Updates

Now for some updates as to what is on up for BZD Films:

  1. School! I am in my last two semesters for business school at Georgia Tech, which makes my life extremely busy and lacking of almost all free time. However, I am in some really great classes this semester. Let’s take a quick look at my current curriculum:
    • Organizational Behavior
    • Entrepreneurial Finance and Private Equity
    • Taxation of Business Entities
    • Negotiations and Conflict Resolution
    • Law and Ethics of Business

PHEW! I got tired just writing that list out, but could I really turn down such an amazing list of learning? The clear and short answer is, “no”.

  2. ZejMedia. I am still working for David Vyorst as a member of the ZejMedia team. We are developing social media strategy for companies along the eastern seaboard, as well as planning, shooting and editing documentaries.
  3. INDIAbetes The INDIAbetes project is going quite well. We now have a fully fledged marketing plan and are working on developing a business plan. The next stage for us will be generating a large enough capital base so that we can go back to India and start on principle photography for the feature length documentary. Concurrently, we’re building a new, feature-rich website that will become the basis for our diabetes and obesity research community. At this point, we plan on turning the site from a static html site into a dynamic site using a Drupal framework. At the moment, I’m looking into hosting solutions and am thinking about going with MediaTemple, but any advice regarding frameworks (Drupal, Ruby, etc) or hosting would be much appreciated!
  4. TechDrawl I have started doing some video editing with this company that highlights technical start-ups through the Southeast, from DC to Texas. Obviously, this is right my alley and I look forward to both writing for them as well as producing video spots about the latest and greatest in tech-based entrepreneurial start-ups.
  5. Georgia Tech Cable Network Part time, I am managing a group of highly motivated and talented students at Georgia Tech. Our unit produces original content for our cable network that serves the GA Tech campus. Hopefully, we’ll be able to expand our reach using new media, the Internet and social media strategy. As we ramp up production, hopefully we’ll be seeing some interesting student productions on this website.

While this list is by no means exhaustive, it does highlight some of the exciting developments in the BZD Network. And as always, stay tuned in for more developments.
